Coca-Cola is proud to have supported Special Olympics in Great Britain since its establishment in 1978.
Coca-Cola Great Britain is committed to making a positive contribution to diverse communities across the country, particularly by helping young people to achieve their personal best, through supporting education, protecting the environment and encouraging active lifestyles.
Coca-Cola supports Special Olympics, both internationally and here in Great Britain, by providing a wide choice of refreshments to athletes, coaches, officials & volunteers, by conducting promotions and fund-raising activities to support Special Olympics events as well as giving their employees the opportunity to volunteer and experience the very special atmosphere at national and international events.
"Special Olympics remains one of the premier organisations of its kind in the world, having helped create positive and enduring change in the lives of people with learning disability for nearly 35 years," said Douglas N. Daft, chairman and chief executive officer, The Coca-Cola Company. "As a founding sponsor of Special Olympics, we have proudly watched the program grow from its roots in Chicago’s Soldier Field to more than 150 countries."
"We are proud that The Coca-Cola Company continues its partnership with Special Olympics and together we will bring the message of sport, joy and human acceptance to communities around the world. As we work to double the number of Special Olympics athletes globally to 2 million strong, the Coca-Cola partnership will be of tremendous support," said Timothy Shriver, president and CEO of Special Olympics Inc.
"For more than two decades, Special Olympics has been fortunate to have one of the finest global companies lend its marketing expertise and staff volunteers to our movement in local communities as well as at our flagship World Games. We look forward to working closely with Coca-Cola to better the lives of Special Olympics athletes through sports training and competition."
Coca-Cola was the official non-alcoholic beverage provider for the 2003 Special Olympics World Games in Dublin. A number of Coca-Cola Great Britain staff – the Special Olympics Champions – attended the Games to experience the event first hand and assist in the Festival Village. Coca-Cola Great Britain congratulates all those involved in the 2003 Special Olympics World Games for their remarkable achievements.
As a result of their positive experience, they now participate in fundraising activities and offer their skills and time to support a new local branch of Special Olympics in the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, where the Coca-Cola office is based.
