Special Olympics Southern Region Indoor Athletics Meeting to be held in Windsor
25/02/09 - 220 learning disabled athletes will compete at the 7th Special Olympics Southern Region Indoor Athletics Meeting to take place in Windsor on Sunday 28 February from 1:00 to 5:00 at the Thames Valley Athletics Centre.
The event organiser Chris Jones, who is also Chair of Special Olympics Southern Region and the charity’s Athletics Technical Advisor, said: “This is a great opportunity for us to focus on athletics and allow our competitors a chance to grow. Through hard work and preparation, our athletes have demonstrated the professionalism to contend and ultimately succeed in sports they love.”
The athletes will show their best in different athletics categories including 16m long jump, standing long jump and shot put. Among the athletes competing will be Lawrence Black of Crowthorne, Berkshire who has been chosen to compete at Special Olympics European Summer Games in Warsaw in September, representing Great Britain versus 48 countries.
With the support of volunteers from SOGB’s corporate partner Mattel, all competitors will face off with peers for a rigorous day of fun and action. Jones added, “whether they win or lose, everyone‘s allowed to play and that’s something we all can appreciate.”
