During the  2009 Special Olympics GB National Summer Games in Leicester  over 700 people joined Special Friends Online  which is a networking site with a difference. It is for people with learning and intellectual disabilities and their carers to communicate with other likeminded people. It was created in 2008 by Martin Harris, who is the founder of the charity Follow your Dreams. The site  is now in 30 countries around the world and has around 2000 members.

Martin said, “2010 will see us putting together a Special Olympic Forum,  encouraging members to use the Special Olympics Chat Room and also utilizing the ‘What’s on Guide’ to advertise your events nationwide.”  Martin will also launch Older Friends (50+) and Working Friends to encourage older members and Athletes to upload their CV to help them find work.

Smiley Talk will now be in 14 languages making it easier for Special Olympic members to communicate all over the world to other members.

Follow Your Dreams continues to raise awareness of Special Olympcis GB  in 2010

This year Follow your Dreams united with Special Friends to put on their biggest road show ever.  It will travel around Britain’s shopping centres raising awareness for SOGB and people with learning disabilities. There will be SOGB groups helping out on the road show. It will also help raise funds for Athens 2011 World Games athletes, who might be struggling financially. "I would like to hear from coaches and athletes who need support", said Martin.

To find out dates and locations of the road show please go to www.followyourdreams.org.uk.
