Special Olympics Great Britain at Grass Roots Live!
Special Olympics Great Britain will be making its Grass Roots Football Live debut as the events’ official charity of choice for 2009 - 2011. From 12 – 14 June, at stand number 200, the charity will introduce attendees to Special Olympics – a year-round free sports programme for the learning disabled.
Special Olympics GB's chairman Lawrie McMenemy MBE - former winning Southampton Football Club manager for 1976 FA Cup - will attend the event and encourage football fans to get involved with Special Olympics GB activities.
McMenemy will introduce the Youth Unified Football Project which aims to raise awareness about learning disabilites and breakdown barriers by having people with and without learning disablities playing football as part of the same team; he will be also talking about the upcoming Special Olympics GB National Summer Games in Leicester 25-31 July .
McMenemy is rated in the Guinness Book of Records as one of the twenty most successful managers in post-war English football.
During Grass Roots Live, SOGB will offer the oportunity to win David James signed items. The England/Portsmouth goalie David James is SOGB’s football ambassador.

Special Olympics Unified Football® combines players between the ages of 16-25 yrs with and without learning disabilities on the same football teams to play and compete alongside each other in a fair and formal format. The goal is to break down barriers in the community, promoting the full inclusion of learning disabled youngsters whilst encouraging social interaction.
