SPECIAL OLYMPICS GB PR INTERN – This Summer 2010

INTERNS STILL NEEDED FOR AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER!!!

Gain valuable and real PR experience, while doing meaningful work supporting a small PR team!

Special Olympics Great Britain - the country’s largest provider of a year-round sports training and competition programme for all people with learning disabilities - is looking for students interested in internship placements.

As a PR intern, you will have the opportunity to write press releases, create media lists, assist regional groups with their PR needs, and help the charity strengthen its media relations, as well as conduct research and assist with the organisation of special events.

Induction about the organisation activities as well as continued guidance and supervision will be provided.

A minimum of six weeks commitment is required so both parts can trully benefit from the volunteer/intern PR scheme. A shorter or on going voluntary work can also be disscussed.

For summer 2010, Special Olympics Great Britain has planned a wide range of PR activities from viral and e-pr awareness campaigns to the production of targeted newsletters. As a PR Intern you will actively support and participate in procuring excellent outcomes of these activities.

Three intern positions we are looking for:

Website Intern: This person will assist in updating content on the SOGB website (including drafting and uploading news stories, update calendar of events). They will also play a big role in managing and updating the SOGB’s Facebook and Twitter pages. They will also assist with the development of our brand new website, planned to be launched in July 2010.
The candidate must have the following:
· Knowledge of HTML
· Photoshop and CMS
· Social Media knowledge (i.e. Twitter & Facebook)

Picture Desk Intern: This person will be organising and improving the efficiency of the SOGB picture desk. It might involve dealing with our AV library also.
The candidate must have the following:
· Good attention to detail
· Interest/experience in photography
· Knowledge of editing and transferring videos to different AV formats
· Excellent organisational skills

Media Monitoring/Researcher Intern: This person will have the main task of following up and reviewing the different media monitoring services already in place in SOGB and ensure that any clipping/record is logged, organised both offline and online and distributed among charity membership and sponsors when required.
The candidate must have the following:
· Good attention to detail
· Strong interest in print and online media
· Excellent organisational skills

Person Specification:

- Journalism, media and communications studies (highly desirable)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Excel
- Office and administrative experience (desirable)

The PR intern positions are Unpaid, but travellling and lunch expenses will be covered.
(Travel costs maximum equivalent to a London's day travelcard and lunch expenses of maximum £5 per day).
